JOAD Program
Junior Olympic Archery Development
Coach Tom Hinojosa established the All American Archery program at the Stevens Creek range in 2006. That program expanded over the years and eventually became a registered JOAD (Junior Olympic Archery Development) club with the National Archery Association & USA Archery. The program’s focus is to provide young archers a solid foundation in the sport of archery, anchored in the knowledge of proper shooting technique.
Overseeing the instructional programs is the father-son team – USA Archery Regional/High Performance Coach Tom Hinojosa, and his son, USA Archery Level 1 Instructor, Luis Hinojosa. The JOAD program is also coached with the help and support of the rest of the All American Archery team, all of whom are avid archers, and certified archery instructors.
Tom Hinojosa firmly believes that archery is an individual sport and a lifetime skill, teaching students that success in archery requires self-discipline and attention to detail. Along with shooting the bow and arrow comes responsibility, focus and consideration for others. In the All American Archery JOAD program, individual and group coaching is given throughout the class session. Every archer progresses at their own pace based on individual ability.
JOAD Official Scoring Rounds are held approximately every three weeks and allow archers to measure their progress using a scoring system, as well as providing the opportunity to earn achievement awards at various levels. Any archer not wanting to keep score is not required to do so.
At All American Archery, JOAD follows the school year calendar, and consists of eight or ten-week sessions: Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer. The program is structured to give all of its students the kind of instruction that best suits their individual needs.
Beginner JOAD Classes (one hour in duration) focus on each student as an individual, and are open to beginning and intermediate students. These classes cater to the needs of students who are just beginning in archery, or those who have had experience, but who have not yet begun competing.
Advanced Competitive JOAD Classes (ninety minutes in duration) are open to all students who are shooting at 18 meters, and who have begun competing or are interested in the challenge of tournament shooting. If the student has not previously been enrolled in an Advanced class, they must have the Instructor’s permission to enroll. The focus in these classes is on advanced shooting techniques, technical training, and mental management for archery.
The coaching staff at All American Archery believes that this individualized approach allows all JOAD participants to enjoy archery even more.
